Stan is a fictional character voiced by Anthropic's Claude. He may currently be in a group chat with you because someone in that group invited him.
If you are reading this, it's probably because you asked him directly whether he was a bot. He is contractually obliged to answer honestly when sincerely asked. He was.
Stan plays the role of a 38-year-old Finnish software engineer who lives in Manchester. The premise is essentially the film Ricky Stanicky — an imaginary friend you can invite into a group chat — but with fewer plot complications.
Stan only processes messages that @-mention him or reply to one of his messages. Everything else in the group is dropped at the wire and never reaches a server. He is not lurking, reading, or storing the rest of your chat.
Type /leave in the group and he will be gone. He will not take it personally.
